Terms of Service

Welcome to Sophialogy ("Sophialogy," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our websites, applications, content, games, learning experiences, leaderboards, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Sophialogy is a nonprofit educational platform focused on improving dialogue, understanding, and human connection through logical reasoning and critical-thinking education. Some portions of our educational materials may be made available under Creative Commons licenses as indicated on the site. Our mission includes offering a free tier with a privacy‑first experience.
1. Who May Use the Services
1.1 Minimum Age.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Services. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you may use the Services only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms.
1.2 Organization Use.
If you use the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms, and "you" will refer to that organization.
1.3 Geographic Availability.
We may limit availability of the Services in certain countries to comply with law or operational constraints.
2. Accounts & Security
2.1 Accounts Optional.
Some features (e.g., saving progress, leaderboards, achievements) may require creating an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current.
2.2 Credentials.
Keep your password and login credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at support@sophialogy.com of any unauthorized access or security incident.
2.3 Privacy First.
We are committed to a privacy‑first experience. We do not sell personal data. Learn more in our Privacy Policy (incorporated by reference into these Terms).
3. Donations & Payments
3.1 Donations.
We may accept voluntary donations to support our mission. Payments are processed by third‑party payment processors (e.g., Stripe, PayPal) and are subject to their terms and privacy policies. We do not store full payment card numbers.
3.2 Non‑Refundable Unless Required by Law.
Donations are generally non‑refundable, except where required by law or in our discretion.
3.3 Tax Status.
We may identify as a nonprofit and/or indicate 501(c)(3) status or filing. Unless and until the IRS (or other relevant authority) grants recognition, donations are not tax‑deductible. Even after recognition, deductibility depends on your circumstances. Consult your tax advisor. We may provide acknowledgement receipts but do not provide tax advice.
3.4 Recurring Donations.
If you opt into recurring donations, you can cancel future charges at any time through your account or by contacting support@sophialogy.com before the next billing date.
4. Educational Content, AI‑Generated Material & License to You
4.1 Educational Content.
Except as expressly indicated otherwise on the Service, the content, games, scenarios, explanations, text, graphics, and other materials we make available ("Sophialogy Content") are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual‑property laws.
4.2 Creative Commons Where Marked.
To the extent particular educational materials are expressly labeled as made available under a Creative Commons license, your use of those materials is governed by the specific Creative Commons license identified with that material. Brand assets (including logos, names, and trade dress) are not licensed under Creative Commons and may not be used without our written permission.
4.3 AI‑Generated/Programmatic Outputs.
Our Services may generate explanations, hints, feedback, or other outputs ("Outputs") based on your inputs. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a personal, non‑exclusive, non‑transferable license to use Outputs for your own non‑commercial educational purposes. Outputs may be similar to content generated for others. We make no promise that Outputs are accurate, complete, or appropriate for any particular purpose.
4.4 No Professional Advice.
Sophialogy Content and Outputs are for educational and informational purposes only and do not constitute professional advice (including legal, medical, financial, or mental‑health advice). Do not rely on them as a substitute for professional judgment.
5. Your Content & Feedback
5.1 User Content.
You may submit content, including prompts, answers, examples, feedback, comments, usernames, and other materials ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content, subject to the license below.
5.2 License to Sophialogy.
You grant Sophialogy a worldwide, royalty‑free, sublicensable, transferable license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, display, and distribute your User Content solely to provide, operate, secure, and improve the Services (including moderation, analytics, and anti‑abuse). We do not sell your User Content.
5.3 Public Features.
If you participate in public features (e.g., leaderboards, community recognition), certain profile information (e.g., display name, achievement badges) may be visible to others. Do not use a display name that infringes others' rights or violates our Acceptable Use.
5.4 Feedback.
If you send ideas or suggestions ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty‑free license to use and exploit the Feedback without restriction or compensation.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Violate any law or infringe others' rights (including IP, privacy, or publicity rights);
- Upload or generate content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, threatening, exploitative, or otherwise objectionable;
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
- Attempt to scrape, mine, bulk download, or index the Services or Sophialogy Content, including for the purpose of training a model, without our prior written permission;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or probe the Services except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by law;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Services, circumvent access controls, or test for vulnerabilities without authorization;
- Use the Services to develop or train competing datasets or models, or to provide automated access for third‑party use without our consent;
- Bypass any rate limits or use the Services in a manner that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
We may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms or poses risk to users or the Service.
7. Intellectual Property & DMCA
7.1 Ownership.
Except for content made available under Creative Commons as expressly marked, Sophialogy and its licensors retain all rights, title, and interest in and to the Services and Sophialogy Content.
7.2 Trademarks.
"Sophialogy," our logos, and associated branding are trademarks or trade dress of Sophialogy. You may not use them without our prior written permission.
7.3 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
If you believe content on the Services infringes your copyright, please send a notice to our Copyright Agent at legal@sophialogy.com with: (a) your physical or electronic signature; (b) identification of the copyrighted work; (c) identification of the material claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient to locate it; (d) your contact information; (e) a statement that you have a good‑faith belief that use is not authorized; and (f) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act. We may remove content and terminate repeat infringers as appropriate.
8. Third‑Party Services & Links
The Services may reference or link to third‑party sites, research, or services (including payment processors). We are not responsible for third‑party content, policies, or practices. Your use of third‑party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.
9. Service Changes; Beta Features
We continuously improve the Services and may add, modify, or discontinue features at any time. From time to time, we may offer experimental or beta features. Beta features are provided "as is" and may be modified or discontinued without notice.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you violate these Terms, create risk or legal exposure for us or our users, or if we are required to do so by law. Upon termination, the licenses granted to you will end, except that Sections 3.2–3.4, 4.2–4.4, 5.2–5.4, 6–8, and 11–16 will survive.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICES, SOPHIALOGY CONTENT, AND OUTPUTS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON‑INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error‑free, or that Outputs will be accurate or suitable for any particular purpose. You assume all risk for your use of the Services.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SOPHIALOGY AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, LICENSORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
To the extent we are liable notwithstanding the foregoing, our aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Services will not exceed USD $100 or the amount you paid to us for the Services in the 12 months preceding the claim, whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in such cases, the above limitations apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Sophialogy and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, licensors, and suppliers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your: (a) access to or use of the Services; (b) User Content; (c) violation of these Terms; or (d) violation of any law or third‑party right.
14. Governing Law; Dispute Resolution
14.1 Governing Law.
These Terms and any dispute that arises from them will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict‑of‑laws principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence apply.
14.2 Arbitration & Class‑Action Waiver.
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. You and Sophialogy waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action.
- Venue. Arbitration will be conducted remotely (by videoconference) or in New Castle County, Delaware, as you choose.
- Small Claims. Either party may bring an individual action in small‑claims court in a jurisdiction that has such a court.
- 30‑Day Opt‑Out. You may opt out of arbitration and the class‑action waiver within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing legal@sophialogy.com with subject line "Arbitration Opt‑Out" and your name, the email associated with your account (if any), and a statement that you opt out.
14.3 Injunctive Relief.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent or stop unauthorized use or misuse of confidential information or intellectual property rights.
15. International Users; Consumer Rights
15.1 EEA/UK Consumers.
If you are a consumer in the EEA or UK, you benefit from mandatory rights under local law. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have as a consumer under applicable law. If we offer any paid subscriptions to you in the future, you may have a statutory right of withdrawal; details will be provided at the time of purchase if applicable.
15.2 Export.
You may not use or export the Services in violation of U.S. export laws or the laws of the jurisdiction in which you use the Services.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Effective Date" above reflects the date of the latest update. If changes are material, we will provide notice (e.g., by posting an announcement on the site). Your continued use of the Services after the updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance.
17. Miscellaneous
17.1 Entire Agreement.
These Terms, together with any policies or guidelines referenced herein (including our Privacy Policy), constitute the entire agreement between you and Sophialogy.
17.2 Severability.
If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
17.3 Assignment.
You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets.
17.4 No Waiver.
Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
17.5 Force Majeure.
We will not be liable for any delay or failure to perform due to events beyond our reasonable control.
